Corn Cob Laboratory Animal Bedding

Specifications - Basic Material Information

Clean, dry corncobs, are precision ground to retain only the material from the woody ring of the cob. The cobs are heat treated to achieve moisture content not greater than 9% and to control any pathogenic bacteria. Typical final moisture after milling is 6% +/- 2%.

The corncob bedding products are available in a variety of particle sizes such as 1/8" and 1/4" and a blend of both.

Due to the wide variety of applications, corncob is available in either polywoven bags for immediate use, or in special 3 layer paper bags, suitable for autoclaving.

The corn cob bedding comes in 18Kg bags, but larger and smaller packaging is available, depending on quantity ordered.

The corncob bedding product is bagged immediately after manufacture and stored in vermin-proof, clean and dry storage facilities to ensure quality.

The corncob bedding product is shipped on clean stretch-wrapped pallets to ensure product protection.

Pest Control Programme

brcBRC are careful to ensure a good pest control programme is in place at the corn cob production facility, whereby pest control personnel visit the facility on a monthly basis to monitor and control insects, rodents and birds.

Chemical insecticides are not used inside the warehouse facility. Exterior crawling insects are controlled with non-residual chemicals only if necessary to prevent entry into the building.

In addition to pest control, BRC ensures that the corn cob production facility adheres to strict in-house pest control and prevention procedures including:

  • closing doors and windows and making sure they are well-sealed
  • maintenance of the facility to ensure dirt and debris is minimized
  • checking the product thoroughly prior to distribution to ensure bags are intact and there are no signs of pests or contamination

BioCob Laboratory Animal Bedding Storage

BioCob bedding is stored on metal pallet racks at least 18” away from concrete floors and walls to allow for proper circulation and inspection and to prevent possible damage or contamination.

All corn cob products are rotated on a first in, first out basis.

Temperature and Humidity

The temperature and humidity of the warehouse is monitored to ensure that products are not compromised.
